What Is ChatGPT?

Chat GPT is a smart computer program that can help you with your writing. It understands human language really well, which means it can provide personalized suggestions to improve your writing skills.

Whether you need help brainstorming ideas, editing your work, or need someone to bounce ideas off of, Chat GPT can assist you with all of your writing needs. Basically, its purpose is to assist you in writing better.

Chat GPT is built on the cutting-edge GPT-3.5 architecture, which enables it to generate human-like responses and understand natural language processing at an advanced level. This means that it can provide you with personalized recommendations for your writing, help you improve your grammar and syntax, and even generate content for you from scratch.

While it is undeniably a helpful language tool, some people warn that it's not completely reliable all the time.

"I think there's so much hype around ChatGPT, and tools like this have potential. But it can't do everything — it's not magic."  -  Daniel Linna Jr., professor at Northwestern University

Testing Out Prompts For Website Copywriting

We chose a few prompts for website copywriting to test out the capabilities of ChatGPT. Here's what our friendly language assistant came up with:

1. As an experienced content writer, write an inspiring call-to-action for a landing page, targeting creative customers, highlighting the product [X]'s ability to bring their imaginative ideas to life.

Here was the first response Chat GPT came up with.

While Chat GPT did a good enough job of following the guidelines we provided, it simply seemed to be lacking something. Yes, it did what we asked, but there was no real excitement behind it. CTA's should move potential customers, create some sort of reaction leading to action, and this simply wasn't it. So we gave it a second chance to generate a new response.

Tell me you copied the homework without telling me you copied the homework.

Well, that was anti-climactic. It basically gave the same response, just with a few minor changes. However, you cannot fault a chatbot for not being able to fully recreate human excitement. The bottom line, it was helpful in providing some ideas, which is actually a really good thing, especially when feeling stuck on what to write. The human writer would then be responsible for bringing the appropriate tone to the CTA. Sounds like a fair collaboration.

2. As a web content manager, create a script for a YouTube video ad with a friendly tone for pet owners. The advertisement should highlight the benefits of using the product in providing comfort and better care for furry friends.

Ok, I'm not going to lie. While it might not be a commercial worthy of appearing during half-time of the Super Bowl, it does the job. Frankly, I would have much appreciated getting a chatbot-generated script when I had to make a toothpaste commercial for dogs when I was in elementary school. Again, these are not "magical" results, but they are efficient, to say the least. It certainly provides a good starting point.

3. As a content creator, write a friendly headline for a blog article targeting family-oriented customers, highlighting the product [X]'s benefits in enabling them to spend more quality time with their loved ones.

ChatGPT generated headlines

As any copywriter will tell you, writing eye-catching headlines is hard. There's nothing worse than trying to come up with an attractive headline and coming up blank. In cases like this, ChatGPT can at least be helpful in brainstorming ideas. We did ask it to generate two new responses. Of course, there's no limit to how many times you can generate a new response. While it might possibly not come up with a spectacular headline, it can most definitely help you to get your creative juices flowing. Remember, you can always change the specifications you have given to tailor your headline as much as possible.

4. As a copy editor experienced in SEO, craft an inspiring short story highlighting the product [X]'s features aimed at wellness-focused customers, emphasizing how it promotes a healthy balance and enhances overall happiness.

While this was no literary masterpiece, it was easy to read and it was relatable. It brought its message clearly across to the desired audience and had an obvious purpose. While it might not necessarily serve as a finished product, it makes a decent draft to work upon. Again, it's necessary to keep in mind that ChatGPT is simply a tool to help your writing. It's not meant to replace the human element or creativity from your work.

5. As a content marketer, draft a confident social media post for a sale event targeting tech-savvy customers, emphasizing the product [X]'s ability to help them stay ahead of the latest technological trends.

In this case, it seems ChatGPT did a fair job at what it was tasked to do. It's informative and straight to the point with not much fuss. A few minor tweaks to make it a bit more personable and the social media post would be good to go.

However, just for a bit of razzle-dazzle, we decided to change what we wanted the tone of the post to be. This time around, we asked ChatGPT to make the tone of our post friendly and fun. Here are the results:

As you can see, the tone of the social media post really did change. This is a good example of the importance of getting to know how ChatGPT works and how to best collaborate with it. Try different keywords until you get closer to the results you really want. And yes, sometimes some good ol' human razzle-dazzle might just be what's missing.

Tips To Help You Get the Best Results From Chat GPT

As mentioned before, while Chat GPT is a great language tool, it is not magic. It still requires human guidance to obtain the best results. And the more you practice with it and understand how it works, the better results you'll get.

Here is a list of tips that will help you on your way to dominating Chat GPT:

1. Be specific: The more specific you are about what you need, the better ChatGPT will be able to assist you. Give clear and concise instructions and provide relevant context for your requests.

2. Be patient: ChatGPT is a powerful tool, but it still takes time to process and generate responses. So, be patient and allow the program to work through its algorithms.

3. Give feedback: If you're not satisfied with a response or suggestion, provide feedback to ChatGPT. This will help the program better understand your needs and generate more accurate results in the future.

4. Use correct grammar: ChatGPT is a great tool for improving your writing, but it can't fix all your mistakes. Make sure to use correct grammar and spelling, so ChatGPT can provide better suggestions and feedback.

5. Practice: The more you use ChatGPT, the better you'll become at using it effectively. Take the time to explore its features and experiment with different writing styles to find what works best for you.

6.     Use simple language: ChatGPT is great at understanding natural language, but it's always best to use simple and clear language to avoid any confusion.

7. Use examples: If you're asking ChatGPT to help you with a specific writing task, provide examples of what you're looking for. This can help ChatGPT understand your needs better and provide more targeted responses.

8. Proofread your work: Even though ChatGPT can help you with grammar and syntax, it's always a good idea to proofread your work before publishing it.

9. Use multiple prompts: ChatGPT can generate multiple responses for the same prompt. Experiment with different prompts to get the best results.

The Bottom Line

So what can we take away from all of this? Overall, while ChatGPT has its limitations, it remains a powerful tool for natural language processing. While it might be lacking the human element in some aspects, it makes up for it in its ability to quickly process data and generate large amounts of text quickly and accurately. There is no doubt that it will continue to play a major role in various industries in upcoming years. If you're looking for a reliable and user-friendly tool to help you become a better writer, give ChatGPT a try! Just don't forget to always add your own razzle-dazzle to your work to make it truly and uniquely human!
